U.S. District Judge Eileen Cannon has rejected President-elect Trump's 11th-hour bid to block the release of Special Counsel Jack Smith's massive report on election interference.
The emergency petition against Cannon was filed just after 10 p.m., less than two hours before the Justice Department was scheduled to release its Jan. 6 report.
Cannon earlier Monday denied President Trump's efforts to block the release of documents related to election interference, allowing that portion of the report to be released, but saying the matter would be considered further at a January meeting. announced that the Mar-a-Lago Documents report remained secret until then. 17 Public hearing.
In a late-night filing, Trump's lawyers asked Cannon to reverse course and wait until at least Friday to release the report and extend the order.
“President Trump respectfully submits that the Court may hear arguments on the motion to intervene and the request to permanently enjoin publication of the final report in its entirety at a hearing on Friday, January 17, 2025.” wrote the lawyer.
Cannon reacted quickly, refusing to grant President Trump's request and giving the Justice Department a second go-ahead for the book's release on January 6th.
