Canoeist from the Olympics faces charges for vandalism in the Reflecting Pool related to ActBlue

Former Olympic Athlete Arrested for Vandalizing Lincoln Memorial Pool

Reports have emerged regarding vandalism at the recently updated reflecting pool of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., leading to several arrests, notably including a former U.S. Olympian. Kevin Koch is set to report live from the White House to discuss the damage and the ongoing cleanup efforts. President Donald Trump has publicly condemned the “shameful vandalism” and the use of corrosive chemicals at the site.

David Hahn, a former Olympic canoeist, was charged with vandalizing the reflecting pool over the weekend amid protests at the National Mall. Interestingly, he has connections to a significant left-leaning fundraising network. Records indicate that the 67-year-old has made multiple donations to the Democratic Party and Barack Obama’s campaigns.

Hahn’s charges came after he allegedly interacted with the water and took hold of a hose used by a National Park Service employee. It’s worth noting that the reflecting pool was drained and repainted under Trump’s administration, but it has faced criticism for issues like peeling paint and algae growth.

ActBlue, the Democratic fundraising organization, has funneled billions to candidates, including Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, but has faced scrutiny for its overseas donations, prompting a federal investigation into potential donor fraud.

In an interesting twist, Hahn shared with the Associated Press that he considers himself a “curious citizen.” He apparently wanted to experience the pool firsthand, describing the sensation as “very rubbery.”

Notably, Hahn was previously arrested in 1996 for violating an emergency closure at the Potomac River but was acquitted later on. The recent $14.8 million renovation of the reflecting pool has sparked frustration among politicians and residents, with some expressing anger over algae issues.

Five individuals have been arrested for criminal damage to property, while another five received federal citations. So far, police have noted 14 vandalism incidents, including a suspect reportedly using a knife to slash nearly 300 feet into the pool liner—a situation highlighted by Trump in a recent post.

President Trump underscored the significance of the reflecting pool’s restoration, pointing out the extensive effort and resources that went into creating its beautiful appearance. He expressed concern over the vandalism and the chemicals used to damage its surface.
