Jake Paul has a plan in place should he try to recreate the infamous ear-splitting moment from 1997 when Mike Tyson faced him in an exhibition fight on July 20th.
“He can’t bite my ear off even if I knock out his teeth,” said Paul, 27. FOX News’ Jesse Watters on wednesday.
Paul, who is 9-1 in his professional fighting career, will take on the former world heavyweight champion (50-6, 44 KOs) at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, and the bout will be broadcast live exclusively on Netflix. It will be relayed.
“Man, I think he underestimates me,” Paul said of Tyson. Tyson will be 58 years old (his birthday is June 30th) by the time he steps into the ring. “I really…I really do. And it’s a heavyweight fight, so you know, he’s bigger.
“But I’m faster. He’s a much stronger guy, but I’m fresher. He’s more experienced. I’m smarter, but in the ring he might be smarter, so it’s a really interesting matchup. It will be.”
Paul went on to explain his training plan for facing Iron Mike.
“He’s a bigger guy so…he’s going to go in,” the internet personality said. “I’m probably going to make weight for this fight.
“But I believe I’m fast on my feet and fast on my hands. So I’m going to adjust my angle.”
Paul added that he’s not worried about sharing his game plan publicly.
“I don’t care. Mike can come up with a game plan. We’re still going to win,” he said. “That’s how confident I am in my abilities.”
Paul has consecutive knockout wins over professional boxers and Golden Globe Award winners Ryan Borland (March 2024) and Andre August (December 2023).
Tyson hasn’t fought since November 2020, when he faced Jones in an exhibition bout in Los Angeles, but this was his first professional fight in more than 15 years.
During a recent appearance on FOX, Tyson admitted he was nervous about getting in the ring with Paul, but explained that fear is part of his plan for success.
Tyson: “I have a strange personality” told Sean Hannity “I don’t think it’s weird. Anything I’m scared to do, I’ll do. That’s just the way it is. I was scared of Roy. [Jones Jr.] Fight [in 2020].
“Even though I was 100 pounds overweight and I was 54 or 53 years old, I said, ‘Let’s do it.’ Whatever I’m afraid of, I’m going to face it. And that. is my personality. I’m scared to death right now.
“The closer I get to the game, the less nervous I am because this is real and the reality is I’m invincible.”
“I always believed that adversity and tension lead me to success,” he said. “If I didn’t have this kind of feeling, I wouldn’t be in this fight. You need that kind of feeling to fight. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t have stepped into the ring.”
