Capitals unveil incredible cherry blossom jerseys

Spring is in the air in our country's capital.

As winter slowly gives way to warmer temperatures, the attention of Metropolitan DC in Washington, DC turns into cherry blossom flowers squealing the tide basin near the National Mall. Originally a gift from Japan to the city's citizens, The Blooming of the Blossoms is an annual event every spring.

As part of this year's festival, and in commemoration of the Washington Capitals' 50th anniversary season, the team released a special jersey. The inspiration behind the design, Created by a local artist Taylor Campa Olsonpairs Blossom with the revival of Washington's “Scream Eagle” design. The Capitals wear screaming Eagle throwbacks in this season's Select Game.

Washington announced its jersey on social media on Tuesday:

The jersey features an eagle landing on a cherry blossom branch and screaming at the front. The 50th Anniversary shoulder patch also features flowering and is also woven into the numbers on the back of the jersey.

At this point, the capital has scored 86 points above both the Metropolitan Division and the Eastern Conference. Beyond their victory/loss record, superstar Alex Ovechkin is close to Wayne Gretzky's highest goal record ever. Ovechkin currently has an 884 career goal. There are 10 people on Greetzky's 894 mark.
