According to Italian media reports, prosecutors have opened an investigation into possible manslaughter charges against 51-year-old James Cutfield.
However, being under investigation in Italy does not mean someone is guilty, and it does not necessarily mean that formal charges will be laid.
La Republica Magistrates interviewed Cutfield for the second time that week on Sunday and questioned him for more than two hours, the report said.
Prosecutors may also reportedly investigate one of the surviving crew members.
Monday, August 19NumberIn November 2017, the 184-foot superyacht “Bayesian” capsized and sank during a storm while anchored off the northern coast of Sicily with 22 people on board.
The Baysian was owned by Lynch’s wife’s company, and Lynch was one of 15 survivors.
Termini Imerese prosecutor general Ambrogio Cartosio said in a statement on Saturday that a sudden weather event had struck the yacht, but that negligence could have led to the multiple murders and the shipwreck.
The Master is fully responsible under maritime law for the vessel, its crew and all persons on board.
The superyacht’s designer said in an interview that he believes the accident may have been caused by human error.
