Car burglary suspects accidentally shot own teenage getaway driver in the neck after homeowner confronted them, police say

Three suspects were trying to steal a car in Texas when a homeowner and his son intercepted them and one of the suspects was shot dead. Accidentally Shooting Shoot the getaway driver in the neck.

Police said the three suspects were discovered Sunday by a homeowner in the area searching an unlocked vehicle parked on Wildrose Road in Alamo Heights. The 16-year-old was driving the stolen vehicle.

“His probation was revoked and he was committed to a juvenile detention center.”

The homeowner and his son confronted the suspects as they tried to flee in a vehicle. Two of the suspects were armed and tried to scare them off with warning shots, but one shot struck the 16-year-old driver in the neck as he fled, police said.

Police said the boy who was shot was already on probation for burglary and vehicle theft that he committed earlier this month. That probation was revoked and the boy was taken to juvenile hall.

The condition of the injured boy was not released.

Authorities also said the vehicle driven in the theft was stolen because the owner left the doors unlocked and the keys inside the vehicle. Authorities urged the public not to leave valuables in their vehicles and to always lock their vehicles.
