Oregon State Police troopers were in the right place at the right time when the car went off an embankment and landed 200 feet below.
The agency posted dashcam footage on Facebook of the Feb. 25 crash on Highway 224 near Southeast Ton Road in Clackamas County, saying the crash was caused by the driver’s “distracted driving.” he claimed.
Dramatic four-second video footage taken from a police officer’s patrol car shows a vehicle approaching from the opposite direction slam into a dirt road on the side of the road, launch itself into the air, and then plummet downwards.
“After the driver took his eyes off the roadway, the vehicle left the roadway and fell approximately 200 feet into an embankment,” OSP said in a social media post. Police have not said exactly what the driver was doing before the car went off the cliff.

The unidentified driver was able to exit the vehicle before emergency personnel arrived at the scene and deployed a rope system to safely transport the driver up the hill.
Police said the driver was “lucky to survive” and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

“I was just staring at the road and I just saw the car go off to the left,” said another person, describing the crash that happened so quickly.
