Cardi B Hosts Pop-Up Event in Washington Heights
On Saturday, I found myself dancing on the streets of Washington Heights. Cardi B, the rapper, organized a pop-up event ahead of her new album release.
A large crowd gathered at the deli on West 159th Avenue to catch a glimpse of her.
Her much-anticipated second studio album, titled “Am I The Drama?”, is set to drop this Friday.
According to Hamed al-Harimi, an employee at the deli, “There were a lot of people in the store. Everyone was dancing on the street. It’s a beautiful day as Cardi B came to the store.”
The rapper announced her appearance on Instagram and treated fans to around 200 sandwiches and nearly 300 drinks, as mentioned by the deli worker.
“She got her favorite sandwich, Honey Turkey Provolone, with tomatoes and mayo,” Harimi noted.
Alba Cruz, who lives nearby, felt the buzz of excitement from the event.
“People were screaming, ‘Cardi B is the queen,'” she shared.
There was one arrest on minor charges during the event, but the police didn’t provide further details.
Paola Lala, 41, discovered the pop-up while walking her dog around 11 am. “Her new song mentions bodega, so she’s here,” Lala said, referring to “Bodega Buddy.” “People were waiting for hours. I waited because I love her music.”
Brian Ventura, a 14-year-old, recalled how the crowd went wild when the singer arrived around 1 pm. “She was dancing and taking photos with people,” he said. “That was a surprise. She was outside the deli. It was so cool.”
Indeed, the air was buzzing with excitement as hundreds of fans turned out to support Cardi B. I mean, who wouldn’t want to dance a little on a day like that? It was all just so… I don’t know, electric, I guess.
