Cardi B’s Call to Texas Voters

Rapper Cardi B, who has openly expressed her disdain for America in the past, recently described the country as “ghetto” and “dusty.” Following Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential victory, she controversially remarked, “this is why hurricanes hit some of your states.” Now, she is urging voters in Texas, a state frequently affected by hurricanes, to support Democratic U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett. The primary election is approaching, with early voting wrapping up soon.

On Wednesday, Cardi B shared a video on her Instagram Story emphasizing the importance of voting:

“Listen, everyone. Early voting is happening in Texas right now, and we need Jasmine Crockett to win. She’s running for the U.S. Senate. If you want someone who’s going to fight for your rights and your community, vote for my sister, Jasmine Crockett. She’ll fight hard for you. Vote now to make your voice and issues heard.”

In a subsequent X video, she said, “Okay, everyone heard my good voice!!! She’s on a SOLD OUT tour and it still took her a minute to get in. There are 2 days left for early voting. Let’s go for it!!! #JasmineForUS #TexasTough”

Crockett currently leads Texas Congressman James Talarico in the Democratic primary. A poll from the University of Texas/Texas Politics Project, conducted among 369 likely voters from February 2 to 14, showed Crockett ahead by 12 points, at 56% to 44%. Another poll from December confirmed her lead.

Additionally, Crockett has received backing from Kelly Rowland, a former member of Destiny’s Child. On February 19, she tweeted, “If you know anything about women in Texas, you know we don’t sit around. We show up. So go vote!”

Early voting wraps up on February 27th.

The post included a clip where Rowland encouraged viewers to vote, stating, “You guys have to go out and vote. You know what to do.” Crockett chimed in, affirming the urgency of voting starting on February 17th. Rowland concluded with, “You have a voice, so use it.”

Former Congressman Colin Allred, who previously ran for Senate in Texas, is also supporting Crockett while taking aim at Talarico for comments he deemed racist.

This endorsement from Cardi B follows her earlier, somewhat divisive statements on political endorsements. Although she rejected supporting another presidential candidate, she notably backed then-Vice President Kamala Harris in November 2024, saying she “believes every word that comes out of her mouth.” This came after her public discontent with President Joe Biden, who acknowledged that he had “really, really, really messed up” America.

After Trump’s recent electoral success, Cardi B posted a video that later disappeared, in which she stated, “This is why hurricanes hit some of your states,” referencing the ongoing recovery efforts in North Carolina after Hurricane Helen.

In a contrasting moment, while attending the Soundstorm Festival in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in December 2025, she told her followers on Instagram, “I’m starting to fall in love with America” and expressed a desire to return. Reflecting on her time in Saudi Arabia, she praised the country for its luxury and compared her experiences, calling the U.S. “ghetto” and “dusty.” She recognized the strictness of laws in Saudi Arabia but noted, “it’s very easy to follow the rules here.” Concluding her thoughts, she remarked on the lack of respect she perceives Americans have for their surroundings and stated, “I love it here, I really, really love it.”
