NFL Coaching Changes: Cardinals Make Their Move
The NFL’s coaching landscape shifted on Sunday when the Arizona Cardinals filled their head coaching position, becoming the last team to do so. They’ve signed Mike LaFleur, formerly the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, to a five-year deal.
Following the Super Bowl LX, Clint Kubiak, the offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks, was also reported to be stepping into the head coaching role at the Las Vegas Raiders. This development officially closes the last two coaching vacancies in the league.
- New York Giants: John Harbaugh
- Atlanta Falcons: Kevin Stefanski
- Cleveland Browns: Todd Monken
- Buffalo Bills: Joe Brady
- Baltimore Ravens: Jesse Minter
- Pittsburgh Steelers: Mike McCarthy
- Miami Dolphins: Jeff Hafley
- Tennessee Titans: Robert Saleh
LaFleur’s appointment marks another coaching connection from the Sean McVay coaching tree, which has been significant in the NFL. Since McVay took over as head coach of the Rams, he has cycled through four offensive coordinators, all of whom are now head coaches elsewhere.
Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill shared his thoughts on the selection process, saying, “We evaluated a talented pool of candidates and found that Mike possesses all the essential qualities to lead this team. He’s sharp, creative, and a dynamic leader, which is exactly what we were aiming for.”
General Manager Monty Ossenfort praised LaFleur’s background, noting that he has been fortunate to learn from elite leaders in football, which positions him well to guide the Cardinals toward success.
LaFleur’s track record with the Rams features ranking as one of the top offensive units in the league. Under his leadership, the Rams have consistently performed well, particularly in passing yards and touchdowns.
Expressing his enthusiasm about the new role, LaFleur remarked, “I’m thrilled to be the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. I appreciate the trust from Michael and Monty. Having faced off against them in the NFC, I understand the talent and resilience this team possesses. I’m eager to get started.”
Before his time with the Rams, LaFleur also spent time with the New York Jets, working closely with Robert Saleh. As the NFL season approaches, it’s likely we will see more coaching changes and expansions as teams prepare for the upcoming year.
