There were fireworks in Glendale Monday night, but they had nothing to do with the Cardinals' 17-15 victory over the Chargers at State Farm Stadium.
Fans of the NFC West team expressed shock after Arizona Cardinals cheerleaders were apparently removed from the sideline along with the team's loved ones during the team's Week 7 win. Fox 10 Tell Phoenix This week, they claimed they only performed during breaks in play, forcing the group to watch the prime-time game from the locker room.
In a statement to the Daily Mail, the Cardinals explained that the move stemmed from a volume and line-of-sight perspective with the installation of the new premier seating.
“This includes certain aspects of the gaming entertainment group, such as cheerleaders and flag runners, who are only on the field during performances.” statement read.
“We will continually evaluate these areas throughout the season to provide the cleanest and safest environment for everyone.”
Fox 10 Phoenix reported that the cheerleaders were given “four days' notice” to travel on game day, and that the team's alumni were stunned by the decision.
Former Cardinals cheerleader Kim Denson told Fox 10 Phoenix, “We spent a lot of time, I'm very surprised,” and alumnus Davis Berryhill said, “When I was on the team, I was in the stands. It was my pleasure to see the little girls.” My favorite thing ever.
“For them, it means women can be in professional sports. Women can be in the NFL. I think it's really important to have women's representation.”
Fans have since flooded the Arizona Cardinals Cheerleaders Instagram page, expressing their support for the team in the comments of the post.
“It's honestly really disappointing to see the Cardinals cheerleaders removed from the sideline. They work incredibly hard and their energy really adds to the atmosphere on game day.” one user wroteconcludes the message with “Take them back!”
Another added the hashtag “Please leave AZCC on the field” to their message.
“They deserve to be out the entire game! #KeepAZCConthefield,” a user posted.
“I was shocked to hear that you were taken off the sideline. It's clear from this comment section that your team is loved so much and your energy is missing during the game. You deserve to be on the field and we will fight for you!!!,” another fan posted.
The Cardinals (3-4) will return to action Sunday against the Dolphins (2-4) as Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is expected to return from a concussion.
The group did not immediately respond to The Post's request for comment.
