Cardinals are a few days away from the potentially troublesome situation at Ballclub's Spring Training Facility in Jupiter, Florida.
Baseball business president John Mozeliac called him a reporter on Wednesday and spoke with reporters as a deadline to report by Sunday, with the unfortunate prospect of Nolan Arenado.
The Cardinals are not going to help the star's third base hand because of the complete non-trade clause he has in the contract and Arenado's desire to become one of five specific teams. They are openly trying to exchange it.
Mozeliac explained the situation, According to MLB.com“strangeness” and said the organization is beginning spring training. Traditionally, it was a time of hope and optimism, “This is on our heads.”
“Is there a chance that something could happen next week? Perhaps. Can this be a camp? Probably,” Mozeliac said. “So I don't have a definitive answer. It takes patience.”
Arenado will report to the team's facility on Sunday if trade is not realized by then and could be on the field for the Cardinals' first full-squad training the next day.
Mozeliac admitted that within weeks he hadn't spoken to anyone in the star's infielder's camp, and expected some clumsiness if he arrived.
However, he added that Arenado is still a professional and understands his expectations.
“I think he's a professional baseball player and now the St. Louis Cardinal. We all understand that if you're here, you're moving forward.” Mozeliac said. “Does that mean trying to achieve something during spring training? Perhaps, but at that point there is no guarantee.”
John Denton from MLB.com was reported in December Arenado had six teams on his trade wish list, including the Dodgers, Padres, Angels, Phillies, Mets and Red Sox.
On Wednesday, he reported that Mozeliac was limited to trying to trade with the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Padres and Angels.
The Red Sox may have left the board Wednesday night after Boston agreed to a deal with Alex Bregman.
“If you look back when we started discussing the possibility of trading him, we probably thought we could do something this offseason, but that wasn't happening. “Mozeliac said. “In the end, I didn't have a big list of teams. There weren't 29 teams that could take him with me, so I'm trying to navigate what I can do. Obviously And it's not moving at the pace many of us wanted.”
In December, the Cardinals had signed a contract with Arenado's Astros, but the third baseman signed a contract.
Time is chocked to accomplish anything before things actually start during spring training.
