Arizona Cardinals Tight End Travis Vocolek Announces Retirement

This announcement follows a neck injury he sustained during a game against the Indianapolis Colts, where a blocked play resulted in an awkward fall that led to him being carried off the field.

Vocolek made the announcement via social media, explaining that after multiple consultations with doctors and neurologists, he was advised to step away from the sport due to the severity of his injury. He expressed gratitude for having had the chance to pursue his childhood dream of playing football at the professional level. Over the past three years, he reflected on the invaluable life lessons and unforgettable experiences he gained through the game.

He took a moment to thank various individuals, including his teammates, coaches, and particularly the medical staff of the Cardinals, for their outstanding support during this challenging period. “I will never forget your care and encouragement,” he mentioned.

Vocolek also shared his appreciation for his wife’s unwavering support throughout his recovery. “I approached being a professional football player every day with passion and determination,” he remarked, concluding his message with appreciation for the love surrounding him.

Before joining the Cardinals in December 2023, Vocolek played college football at Rutgers University and Nebraska. He initially signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2023, though he did not see any game action with the team. For the Cardinals, he participated in eight games, but his on-field contributions were limited.
