Cardinals will replace Kyler Murray with Jacoby Brissett for Monday night football.

Kyler Murray was on the field for Monday’s game with the Cardinals, but ultimately, Jacoby Brissett has been named the starter. Murray is dealing with a foot sprain and might still contribute to the game in some capacity, but Brissett will position himself as the center against the Cowboys, according to head coach Jonathan Gannon’s remarks to the media on Saturday.

“Based on his performance this week, it’s clear Kyler isn’t ready to start,” Gannon mentioned. “So, we’ll go with Jacoby. I have confidence in Jacoby.”

“We’re going to take the next few days to see if we can find a way for Kyler to be involved on game day.”

Brissett will be taking the lead for the third consecutive time for the struggling Cardinals, who have faced a tough five-game losing streak after beginning the season with two wins.

The choice to start Brissett comes soon after Gannon suggested that plans were in place for Murray to kick off. Over the past two games in place of Murray, Brissett has thrown for 599 yards, achieved four touchdowns, and committed only one interception, though the team still hasn’t managed to secure a win.

In five games, Murray has accumulated 962 passing yards with a completion rate of 68.3%, throwing six touchdowns and three interceptions. He also contributed 173 rushing yards and one touchdown.

Coming off a bye week, Arizona is hoping the extra rest has worked in their favor, which Gannon had pointed out could be an advantage for the team struggling to find their footing. “When you begin the game, it’s like the train starts moving; I think that’s true for everyone,” Gannon stated on Thursday. “They seemed rejuvenated, so hopefully, that will help.”
