Careless Ohio driver on Interstate 71 leads to multi-vehicle accident, remains unscathed

The Ohio Department of Transportation recently shared a rather alarming incident on social media involving a driver’s mistake on the highway. A video they posted showed a red van that appeared to have missed its exit and stopped right in the middle of the road. Fortunately, two vehicles were able to brake in time, but then, the third car collided with one of the stopped vehicles, resulting in a chain reaction of crashes. The driver of the red van then left the scene, taking an exit they had already overlooked.

In a Facebook post, ODOT emphasized the importance of safe driving in such instances. They cautioned drivers, saying, “If you miss your exit, keep driving instead of coming to a sudden stop and potentially causing a multi-car accident.” Their message served as a reminder for those who might find themselves in similar situations.

“Hint: The answer is never to stop,” the department added, urging everyone to avoid becoming like that driver.

According to local Fox8 reports, thankfully, no life-threatening injuries were reported, but there was significant damage to the vehicles involved.

As of Friday, local police had not taken action to pursue the driver of the red van. Attempts to get updates from Columbus police were met with no immediate response.
