Shocking video shows armed carjackers opening fire in the driveway of a Mississippi family’s home on Friday, then attempting to flee the victims’ vehicle with their young children inside.
Doorbell camera footage Obtained by local news station WAPT The video shows two men approaching the family’s Jackson home and pointing at least one gun at the woman, Heather Allen, and her adult son as they stand next to a black car parked in the driveway.
The video shows gunshots being heard and two people ducking and hiding behind a car while men approach, brandishing guns.
One of the men then opened the driver’s side door, pulled Allen’s daughter from the car and took control of the steering wheel, according to the video.
Allen told the news station that the suspect then pointed the gun at the face of Allen’s other son, who was in the car.
“He jumped in the driver’s seat and I was standing outside looking in and he pointed the gun at my oldest son’s face,” she said.
Her son managed to escape.
However, her daughter’s two young grandchildren were still inside the house.
“My daughter said, ‘My babies, my babies are in the car,'” Allen said in an emotional interview.
Allen decided to take the risk and drag both suspects out of the car while they repeatedly screamed for the keys.
To scare the armed men away, the grandmother threw her car keys at them, and the men fled in her car, which was parked on the front lawn of the home, the video shows.
Her car was recovered mostly intact about 40 minutes after the carjacking, just two blocks away, Jackson police told the station.
The car is currently being held by police for examination as evidence.
Allen said the armed carjacking incident was traumatic for the whole family.
“I can’t sleep. My oldest son is very anxious and scared. My daughter is in shock, but the family is safe,” she told WAPT.
Allen has only lived in the area for about three months, but already wants to leave Jackson in the wake of this horrific incident.
“I can’t stay here any longer,” Allen said.
No arrests have been made.
