Carli Lloyd Responds to Appearance Criticism
Carli Lloyd, the celebrated USWNT player who is currently a pregnant analyst for FOX during the World Cup, has taken a stand against comments regarding her appearance. Following a tweet about the USMNT’s frustrating World Cup exit after a loss to Belgium, she expressed her thoughts on player Christian Pulisic’s injury. Pulisic mentioned he was feeling fine after resting, which prompted Lloyd to say, “When your playing career is over, you take a break. Period.”
In response to a comment on social media suggesting she seemed to be resting a lot, Lloyd shot back, “I get that you’re a gentleman. Do you always disrespect women? Do you feel good hiding behind a keyboard?” The 43-year-old is also expecting her second child with her husband, Brian Hollins.
Throughout the tournament, Lloyd has been vocal about her opinions, analyzing the U.S. team’s performance. Reflecting on their loss, she mentioned, “I’m a little down here right now after this loss, but it felt like they lost the game before they even stepped on the field.” She noted that from the outset, the team seemed hesitant and lacking confidence. “The big players, I think you were hoping for some of the big players to step up in big moments,” she added.
Lloyd specifically critiqued Pulisic, stating, “To be honest, I was a little disappointed with Christian Pulisic. Regardless of whether he wants to be a star on this team or not, I don’t think we saw enough from him in this game, and actually throughout the entire World Cup. Only little glimpses here and there.”
A two-time FIFA Player of the Year, Lloyd has an impressive record, winning both the 2015 and 2019 Women’s World Cups and scoring the game-winning goal in the Olympic finals of 2008 and 2012.
