Colts Owner Carly Irsay-Gordon’s Game-Day Approach Draws Attention
Carly Irsay-Gordon, who has taken a hands-on approach this season, is the talk of the town, especially with the Indianapolis Colts boasting an impressive 8-2 record. As the daughter of the late Jim Irsay, she is often seen on the sideline during games, donning a headset, jotting down notes, and soaking in every moment of the action. It’s refreshing, really—owners don’t usually get that involved on game day, but she’s been emphasizing this method for some time now.
Daniel Jones, a new addition to the team this offseason, has noticed her unique style. He expressed admiration for how she runs the organization and her commitment to a thoughtful game-day routine.
“It’s definitely great to see,” he mentioned while discussing FedEx’s “Power Move” campaign, highlighting the Colts’ recent win. “Her attention to detail and her genuine effort to grasp the ins and outs of the organization are commendable. She invests significant time and energy to understand everything—from game plans to player strategies.”
Jones also remarked on how Irsay-Gordon’s presence on the sidelines sets a powerful tone for the players, making them aware of the importance of her leadership.
In the past, Irsay-Gordon explained her choice to wear a headset during games. “We need insight,” she said, indicating that a football team’s operation is complex. Recognizing where errors happen, like a wide receiver running the wrong route, provides clarity on who to hold accountable.
“This approach helps us adjust accordingly,” she continued, emphasizing the necessity of understanding internal operations, especially on game days. Yet, her adjustments extend beyond just that day.
After the Colts ended the previous season at 8-9, Irsay-Gordon called her position group into her office—not for a reprimand, but to discuss improvements within the organization.
As tight end Moe Allie Cox noted, her proactive stance aimed to enhance the team’s environment. “She reached out about various aspects, from the cafeteria to travel plans, showing she is truly invested in our comfort and well-being,” he shared.
Interestingly, even left tackle Bernhard Reimann was surprised by her engagement, adding depth to the team’s dynamic.
This passion isn’t just noticeable within the team—it resonates with Colts fans too. For instance, during the Colts’ recent game in Berlin, Irsay-Gordon surprised the fans by visiting a local bar and even picked up a few phrases in German.
Newcomer Jones appreciates this approach to ownership. It plays a significant role in why he’s enjoying his time in Indianapolis. When asked if he could see himself in the long term with the team, he said, “I really like it here. The group we have in the locker room is special.”
Upcoming Initiatives and Recognition
After returning from Berlin, Jones began working with FedEx for their campaign. When questioned about his own role amid all this, he humorously remarked, “Right now, it’s handing the ball to Jonathan Taylor.”
Taylor’s impressive performance has earned him multiple nominations for the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Awards. Jones couldn’t help but praise Taylor, highlighting his consistency and remarkable on-field presence, especially during crucial moments of the game.
