Carlos Alcaraz Faces Backlash from Fans Over Luxury Yacht Purchase

Why Are We Hating on This Man’s Success?

Carlos Alcaraz, the rising tennis star from Spain, recently made headlines by purchasing a luxurious yacht valued in the millions. This 88-foot Sunreef Ultima 88 catamaran is currently under construction in Gdańsk, Poland, and will be tailored to Alcaraz’s specifications.

With this purchase, Alcaraz joins an exclusive club of tennis athletes who own yachts, including the famed Rafael Nadal, who also has a vessel from Sunreef. As the world’s top-ranked tennis player, Alcaraz is now set to become a brand ambassador for Sunreef.

His aim? To inspire and influence the next generation regarding yacht ownership. “Hopefully I can influence younger people,” he shared with SuperYacht Times. “I hope I can show people how beautiful it is. When they see me as a yacht owner, maybe they’ll think this is a great way to relax, have fun, and appreciate the sea.”

But, of course, some reactions are less than favorable. “Haters gonna hate,” as the saying goes.

One fan pointed out, “Imagine if Sabalenka, Raducanu, or Danielle Collins promoted a yacht like this. The backlash would be brutal. Comments about Carlos have been mild so far.” Another fan questioned the feasibility of yacht ownership for those in lower-paying jobs, saying, “Are you suggesting someone on minimum wage should buy a yacht?”

Another comment noted the inconsistency in Alcaraz’s image. “He presents himself as humble and grounded, living with his parents, with trophies in a small room, but then asks young fans to consider yacht ownership,” they wrote.

A comparison was drawn to Djokovic: “He would never endorse something like this. Growing up in a war-torn country, his humble beginnings make his journey more relatable and inspiring. I know I’ll get downvoted for this, but I still believe it,” said a fan.

Yet another reaction hinted at Alcaraz’s reputation, suggesting that “being seen as a good guy helps him weather some criticism.” A fan added, “Rafa also got away with having a yacht.”

Despite the surrounding chatter, one commentator admitted, “I’m exhausted and struggling financially, yet I still don’t hate on this guy… let’s take a breather.”
