Carlos Alcaraz Parts Ways with Coach Juan Carlos Ferrero

Carlos Alcaraz, the top-ranked player in men’s tennis, has decided to end his long-term coaching relationship with Juan Carlos Ferrero. Their partnership spanned an impressive seven years, leading Alcaraz to great heights in the sport.

This announcement came on Wednesday via a social media post from Alcaraz. In his message, he expressed gratitude for the journey they shared.

Ferrero also released a statement thanking Alcaraz, expressing a tinge of regret by saying, “I wish I had continued.”

Interestingly, Alcaraz hasn’t provided any detailed reasons for this decision. Reports suggest that Ferrero was eager to remain in his role.

Since they began working together when Alcaraz was just 15, the two celebrated numerous victories, including six Grand Slam titles—two each from the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. His latest triumph at Flushing Meadows added to a tally of 24 tour-level titles, featuring eight Masters 1000 events.

Reflecting on their journey, Alcaraz, now 22, wrote, “After more than seven years together, Juanchi and I have decided to end our chapter as coaches and players. Thank you for making a childhood dream a reality.” He emphasized the strong bond they developed both on and off the court.

Under Ferrero’s guidance, Alcaraz became the youngest winner of the US Open in 2022 at just 19 and reached the top of the ATP Rankings.

Ferrero described the day as tough, noting, “It’s one of those times when it’s hard to find the right words. Saying goodbye is never easy, especially given all we’ve shared.” The emotions of our shared experiences linger heavily, he remarked.

As for future plans, Alcaraz didn’t indicate whether he would be looking for a new coach. Last year, he brought in Samuel Lopez to work alongside Ferrero.

Earlier this month, Ferrero and Lopez were recognized as Coach of the Year at the ATP Awards after helping Alcaraz reclaim the No. 1 ranking.

Despite the ups and downs, Ferrero remained optimistic, stating, “We have been a great team, and I’m confident success will follow us. I wish I had continued longer. Good memories tend to resurface, and good people often reconnect.” He added a heartfelt thank you.
