Carlos Sainz Jr. and Williams prepared for the challenging Monaco Grand Prix.

Williams’ Strong Start to the 2025 Formula 1 Season

Williams has kicked off the 2025 Formula 1 season on a high note.

After seven race weekends, the team is currently in fifth place in the Constructors Championship, racking up 51 points. This comes after a series of three races where both Carlos Senn Jr. and Alex Albon managed to finish in points. Notably, this 51-point total marks a significant improvement compared to the last two seasons combined.

However, this week poses a significant challenge.

Enter the Monaco Grand Prix.

According to Albon in the team’s media preview, “The Monaco Grand Prix offers an incredible experience in a Formula 1 car. It’s fantastic to race here right after Imola. Achieving another P5 and contributing to the team’s points was a solid result, and I hope to replicate that this week on this iconic track.”

Sainz added, “I’m eager to navigate Monaco’s renowned streets. Every race here tends to be thrilling, and whether in karting or Formula 1, I find great joy in it. A strong Saturday performance is crucial, especially because the narrow streets can be unforgiving and qualify is vital throughout the weekend. Plus, the weather can really change things, so every little detail matters.”

This weekend’s big news is the new two-stop rule mandated by the Governing Body for the Monaco Grand Prix. The FIA aims to enhance the “race spectacle” by requiring teams to make two pit stops during the race, utilizing three tire sets with two compound variations, assuming dry conditions.

Several drivers, Albon among them, are uncertain whether these rule changes will genuinely lead to more overtaking opportunities. When I asked Albon about the modification, he shared his concerns.

“The cars are getting larger, while the circuits stay the same, so I think overtaking remains tricky until the regulations themselves change,” Albon noted.

It’ll be interesting to see if Williams can maintain its competitive edge on the streets of Monte Carlo later this week.
