Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson said Monday that he has changed since leaving the cable news network, saying he was “glad he was fired.”
Carlson spoke last year about leaving Fox News with NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo, who was fired from CNN in 2021. The two appear to share similar experiences in leaving their respective cable networks, as Carlson said, “I’m glad I got fired.”
“And I just got to this point in my life where I feel like there are really important things going on, and I always want to be as honest as possible. And that was a hindrance for me. And I I also had some sort of supernatural sense that everything was going to be okay,” he said in a conversation that aired on NewsNation’s “Cuomo” on Monday.
“That’s good, but I’ve been fired a few times before. So it’s good to get fired, because it brings you down a level. Anyone in television who knows Because I don’t want to be the arrogant asshole that Shimo is on some level, which I mean, I already am… A little public humiliation is really important to men. All men. ” he later added.
NewsNation is owned by Nexstar Media Group, which also owns The Hill.
Carlson was fired from Fox just days after settling a major defamation lawsuit brought by Dominion Voting Systems. He also told Cuomo that things have changed a bit since he left Fox and has been working for himself.
“If you’re 31 years old and trying to make it on TV… you’re itching to compete to show off your skills — ‘I can win!’ Okay, I’ve done it, it’s like, . But I’m not interested in that. It’s completely pointless and doesn’t elicit any interesting information,” he said.
“Everything is about me and my performance. And you know what I’m saying because you’ve lived your life, but there’s a lot of pressure to create a moment. , I just think I’ve had a lot of moments right now,” he told Cuomo.
Mr. Cuomo also praised Mr. Carlson for how he handled his departure from Fox, saying that Mr. Carlson was “more resilient” than he was.
“You’re more resilient than I am about this. I feel like I’m still getting down on one knee and getting back up. And what motivated me to come back is that my wife has to… Second, she was like, “I have to wake up, we have a child, so I have to wake up.” You have to do something in your life to help people and bring something to this place. Get up and do something with your life,” Cuomo said.
