Before she became world famous, “Baywatch” actress Carmen Electra didn't have a place to call home.
Electra, 52, revealed that she was homeless before her big break in Hollywood.
“I was homeless in L.A., and I didn't come from a wealthy family or anything,” she said at a convention in the '90s, according to People magazine.

“I knew where I needed to be in New York or L.A. So there were a lot of struggles and I didn't really know what to do, but I just started trying different things and breaking out of my shell, and that's how it started.”
Despite being a sex symbol in the 1990s, Electra admitted that she was “very shy” at the start of her career.

She continues to speak candidly about how discouraged she was initially about pursuing a career in Hollywood.
“I don't want to go to auditions and then I'll leave and be like, 'Everyone looks so beautiful, but I can't do this, I can't remember anything,'” Electra added.

“I wanted to try different things and meet good people along the way who could help me.”
Born Tara Leigh Patrick, Electra grew up in Cincinnati and trained as a professional dancer with the hopes of touring as a backup dancer for Janet Jackson.

While she was recording a demo for Capitol Records, she caught the eye of Prince, who was putting together an all-girl group.
Electra said that Prince “discovered” her, changed her name, and then asked her to tour with him in Europe.

Electra went on to have numerous leading roles in film and television, including the Scary Movie series, Starsky & Hutch, and Dad 2. Perhaps her best known role is as Lani McKenzie in Baywatch.
“Baywatch” originally aired for 10 years. After the series ended in 1999, the show was rebooted as “Baywatch: Hawaii,” which aired for two years.
