Crew and Pet Cat Rescued from Stranded Cruise Ship

A Carnival cruise ship’s crew recently spotted a distress signal while navigating towards the Mexican island of Cozumel. They successfully rescued a sailor and his pet cat, who had been stranded at sea. Both the sailor and the cat were brought safely aboard and received necessary medical care. Passengers on the ship shared their experiences during the rescue.

Carnival Cruise Line is currently facing backlash from some customers after a technical glitch on their website led to the cancellation of numerous cruise bookings. This incident resulted in prices for certain cruises being displayed unexpectedly low for a short period.

The problem appears to have stemmed from a routine IT maintenance procedure that caused an issue within the cruise line’s reservation system. One passenger recounted on Reddit how they managed to book a balcony cabin for a six-day cruise at just $300, expressing hope that Carnival would honor this rate as it seemed like an incredible deal.

Typically, a five- to seven-day cruise with Carnival can cost anywhere from $600 to $1,500 per person, varying by destination.

In response to the cancellations, Carnival notified affected guests via email, clarifying that the displayed prices were “far below a reasonable promotional fare.” They provided refunds and offered $100 in onboard credit to anyone who rebooked on another cruise by August 31, 2026.

This situation has sparked a lively discussion online, with some customers arguing that Carnival ought to honor the erroneous bookings. A Reddit user pointed out that when a company makes a mistake, it should absorb the cost rather than canceling reservations. Another commented that some travelers booked cruises at impossibly low rates during the glitch.

However, there was also dissenting opinion. Some argued that prices that appear too good to be true often are just that. A user remarked that taking advantage of the glitch wasn’t fair, suggesting Carnival was not obligated to honor the mistaken rates.

Despite the backlash, others acknowledged that pricing errors are not unusual in the travel industry and can lead to cancellations upon being discovered. Carnival’s ticket agreement states that if fares are incorrectly listed due to various errors, the company reserves the right to adjust the price or cancel bookings with a full refund.

Amid all this, many travelers felt Carnival could have managed the situation more effectively, particularly for those with additional travel arrangements linked to their original reservations.
