Passenger Jumps Overboard on Carnival Panorama Cruise
A male passenger aboard the Carnival Panorama cruise jumped overboard as the ship was coming to the end of its week-long voyage. The cruise had departed from Long Beach, California, on September 13 and was returning from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, when the incident occurred, as confirmed by the cruise line.
A spokesperson for Carnival Cruise Line stated, “Carnival Cruise Line confirmed Saturday that a male guest aboard Carnival Panorama jumped overboard while the ship was sailing from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to Long Beach, California.”
After the ship’s crew learned about the missing guest, they initiated search and investigation protocols, including reviewing CCTV footage and notifying the U.S. and Mexico Coast Guards. The spokesperson added that the company is supporting the family of the guest.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved ones,” the statement mentioned.
According to a user on Reddit claiming to be on the cruise, announcements about the missing passenger began around 11 a.m. on Saturday. The Carnival Panorama had left Puerto Vallarta on Thursday at 8 p.m. Following the call for the absent guest, further announcements were made throughout the day. By approximately 3 p.m., the ship turned around.
At about 3:30 p.m., it was announced that a shipwide search was underway, and guests were instructed to return to their staterooms. Security personnel then visited each room to check guests’ identification as part of the standard search protocol.
About an hour later, another announcement informed guests that the search was ongoing, and they should remain in their cabins. Around 5 p.m., the captain and cruise director confirmed that the passenger was indeed overboard after examining onboard footage. Local authorities were set to continue the search and rescue operation, and guests could then leave their staterooms.
The family of the missing person was notified of the situation and offered assistance from the care team. Shortly after 7 p.m., guests were informed that the ship was expected to dock in Long Beach by 9 a.m.
