Carnival cruise ship hosting music festival at sea hits Jamaica pier, leaving passengers stuck on land

Passengers at a music festival at sea were left depressed when bad weather caused a Carnival cruise ship to crash into a Jamaican pier, severely damaging the ship and leaving the cruiser stranded on the island longer than planned.

The accident affected the Carnival Magic ship in Ocho Rios at 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to reports.

“High winds and swells caused the pier fender to collapse under pressure,” a Carnival spokesperson told USA Today.

A spokesperson said the ship departed from its berth and then docked at another nearby pier, allowing passengers who had come ashore to rejoin the ship.

Passenger Dillon Price said: “We’re watching a ship sail out into a storm and it’s like no one knew what was going on.” FOX 35 Orlando.

Passenger Adam Madleton said the storm left him and his group stranded on the Caribbean island for nearly 12 hours.

“There were thousands of people out in the fields in the pouring rain, no shelter, no food, no drink. I think there was one bathroom,” Middleton told FOX 35.

“I don’t think it should have been berthed,” Price said. “While it may have been disappointing to leave Jamaica, it wasn’t as bad as being stranded on an island for 12 hours.”

No injuries were reported and the ship continued to operate.
