Country music star Carrie Underwood was forced to sing “America the Beautiful” a cappella at President Trump's inauguration on Monday due to apparent sound issues.
After President Trump finished speaking after the swearing-in ceremony, Underwood entered the Capitol Rotunda with a microphone and prepared to sing.
Music started playing, but suddenly stopped.
A few moments passed as Mr. Underwood stood silently among former presidents, members of Congress, business leaders and other dignitaries, smiling awkwardly.
TV coverage of the lawsuit Underwood was shown making eye contact. I said to a member of the event's technical team, “Do you just want to sing?” before she nods and smiles.
“Okay, if you know the words, help me out here,” Underwood said before starting to play.
Mr. Underwood's performance at Monday's inauguration announcement was seen as part of a clear show of favor for President Trump by Hollywood and the entertainment industry.
