Carson: Biden debate concerns portray country as ‘rudderless ship’

Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson said President Biden’s shaky performance in Thursday’s debate portrayed the United States as a “rudderless ship” on the global stage.

Carson, a former senior Trump administration official Participated On Friday, NewsNation’s “The Hill” will discuss questions about Biden’s cognitive abilities following widespread concern following his lackluster performance in a debate with former President Trump.

“There are plenty of people much older than Joe Biden who fully understand what’s going on, who express themselves well and who live normal lives,” said Carson, who is also a neurosurgeon.

“You have to ask yourself: If you were a patient and you were about to have surgery and someone like Joe Biden showed up, would you have the surgery? If someone like him showed up as a pilot, would you fly a plane? Would you let someone like that drive a school bus with your kids in it? Of course not,” he continued. “And we want to give him the most responsible position in the world.”

Carson, who ran against Trump in the 2016 presidential election, said Biden’s lack of energy and inability to finish thoughts put the US at risk, with the world watching the debate.

These concerns have led to calls from some lawmakers in Biden’s own party for Biden to withdraw from the presidential race and nominate a new candidate.

“They know we’re a rudderless ship, we have absolutely no leadership,” Carson told host Blake Berman, “so that’s going to make some of our opponents more adventurous, and that could lead to some really disastrous situations.”

He also argued that Democrats who want to keep Biden as America’s leader are “putting us all at risk.”

Foreign policy was a key issue when Biden and Trump faced off on stage again, with the Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Hamas wars posing challenges to Biden’s presidency.

Trump said Putin’s conditions for an end to the fighting in Ukraine were “unacceptable” but declined to explain how he would end the war if re-elected. Biden has spent much of his time in office building a relationship with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and supporting efforts to end the attacks.
