Carson Daly Connects with His Daughter Through Snapchat

Carson Daly is finding ways to bond with his 13-year-old daughter by diving into the digital landscape, much like many parents today. During an appearance on “Today with Jenna and Sheinelle,” he shared his reflections on the hurdles of conversing with teenagers.

“I have a 13-year-old named Etta. She’s doing really well, but, you know, we’ve never really talked,” he humorously remarked. “Do you really know how to speak the language of a 13-year-old? I certainly don’t!”

Parenting Challenges Across Generations

Daly noted a broader sentiment that many have expressed, saying, “There’s this saying, ‘You have to meet the kids where they are.’ You hear it in various contexts, especially in business. They want to reach out and connect.” He took this idea to heart and decided to join Snapchat about six months ago. Surprisingly, he noted that he actually communicates more through Snapchat than face-to-face, particularly with his daughter.

For instance, he explained, “Sometimes you can just send a simple message, like, ‘Are you OK?’ And then, add some funny emojis. She’ll respond with something like ‘lol,’ and then all those little animations pop up on her end. It might seem trivial, but it keeps me connected.”

“I guess it sounds a bit silly,” he confessed, “but I think I’m doing alright.”

Family and Personal Reflections

Daly and his wife, Siri Pinter, are parents to three kids: son Jackson, 17, and daughters London, 11, and Goldie, 6. He has been quite open about his parenting journey and what it means to him.

Back in September 2019, during an interview at the Emmy Awards, Daly described fatherhood as his greatest achievement, saying it brought him a sense of purpose. He shared a bit about his past, revealing, “I lost my father when I was just five, which really shaped my outlook on parenting.”

Daly mentioned he had a supportive mother, as well, but both his parents passed away within a short time frame a couple of years ago, which highlighted for him the importance of being present as a parent. “At the end of the day, being a father is the most significant role in my life,” he reflected. “I have three kids, and my wonderful wife is expecting our fourth. It’s a blessing.”
