Carville Says Dems ‘Are Not Close’ to Beating Trump

Democratic strategist James Carville said Tuesday on MSNBC’s “The Beat” that it’s “not far off” for Vice President Kamala Harris to defeat former President Donald Trump in November’s presidential election.

Guest host Michael Steele said, “I just wanted to touch on a little bit about the ruckus that he caused earlier this week. I personally appreciate it and I wanted people to understand how I felt when you warned people. The enthusiasm and excitement that we’re seeing in the race right now is good and healthy and important, especially given what Joe Biden’s campaign has been like. I think your point is, don’t get carried away with that enthusiasm and lose sight of reality. There’s still a race to run. Republicans are going to be buckling up and putting up a tough fight. So make sure you bring that enthusiasm to your infrastructure on the ground. I’d like you to talk about some of the things that you said there.”

“Thank you. You said exactly what I was going to say. You said it better than I could,” Carville said. “And you’d be wise to listen to Dave Wasserman, who you just had on there. He’s a very smart guy who says we have to win this election by two points. Some people say we have to win by three points, but we’re not there yet. We’ve got to stay level-headed. We’ve got to have a good convention in Chicago. We’ve got to go out and start attacking. We’ve got to get out here. We’ve got to hit them hard. I think the early signs are promising. I don’t think so. I don’t want to get demoralized here, but we have to be realistic. And you and I are a little older. We know what politics are like, we know what the motivations of different people in this country are.”
