Carville’s advice to fellow Dems on Trump: 'Let him punch himself out’

Democratic strategist James Carville urged party members to allow President Trump to “punch himself out” in his first weeks in office.

“He just says whatever he wants to say,” Carville said during Friday's appearance. MSNBC.

“He's just going to keep plowing,” Carville continued. “And what we have to learn as Democrats is, let him punch himself.”

During the interview, Carville hammered home Trump's priority to lower food prices throughout his first week, as the Republican promised on the campaign trail.

“But the big thing is his No. 1 promise. The biggest political promise to this generation is that he's going to lower food prices. Then he gets to office and says, 'There's nothing I can do about it. ” he said. Of course, eggs, $4, something, a dozen,” Carville criticized.

“And he continues to distract us and we continue to be distracted,” he added. Yeah, well, “but my eggs” has become a new kind of retort. ”

The president's first week in office wasn't filled with food price inflation, but focused on immigration and action through executive orders.

Trump signed more than 26 new orders in his first week in the White House, re-establishing the “Remain in Mexico” program and imposing arrests in churches and schools to revoke birthright citizenship. Authorized Immigration and Customs Enforcement Officers.

The court temporarily blocked Trump's order on citizenship Thursday.

Democrats have been working to challenge some of his new policies through joint litigation, while aligning with new party voices as the election for Democratic National Committee chairman is underway.
