Cassie Ventura recounts her experience in the Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs sex-trafficking trial

Witness Testifies in Diddy Trial

Singer Cassandra “Cathy” Ventura, who formerly dated Sean “Diddy” Combs and is a pivotal witness in his federal sex trafficking and assault trials, appeared in court again on Friday to undergo further questioning by Combs’ defense team.

Judge Arun Subramanian indicated that prosecutors agreed to allow Ventura to be re-questioned for 30 minutes that morning. The defense was required to wrap up by 4:30 PM EST.

At eight and a half months pregnant, Ventura has been giving testimony since Tuesday afternoon, detailing the sexual and physical abuse she alleges she suffered during their ten-year relationship.

On Thursday, she endured a six-hour cross-examination, where her attorney attempted to cast doubt on her credibility, suggesting that she actively participated in what were described as joyful sexual encounters.

The defense presented several texts and emails exchanged between Combs and Ventura, some of which were explicit in nature.

One message had Ventura expressing, “I’m always ready to be surprised,” along with remarks about mutual desires. Ventura clarified in court, “It’s just the words I said at that point.”

During an exchange in Thursday’s session, Combs’ attorney inquired about a specific message, to which Ventura replied, “No, there’s more to it.”

The defense also asked Ventura about drug use during their relationship, with Ventura testifying that both she and Combs had a significant dependency on opiates. She mentioned they often used drugs like ecstasy, cocaine, ketamine, and GHB, leading to notable side effects.

At one point, it appeared the defense attorney aimed to show that Combs may have been undergoing withdrawal from opiates around the time of an incident in 2016, which involved a confrontation with Ventura in a hotel.

The defense employed the cross-examination further to address jealousy issues in the relationship, presenting a text where Ventura indicated dissatisfaction and worries about being a “side piece.” Ventura discussed Combs’ infidelity and her jealousy related to his long-term partner, Kim Porter.

She recounted a particular incident in 2011, expressing that Combs displayed anger over her brief relationship with rapper Kid Cudi, which took place during a break in their own relationship. Combs had often suggested he suspected her of having relationships during that time.

Throughout the Thursday proceedings, Combs, dressed in a beige sweater, frequently directed his gaze towards Ventura. His family members, including his son and mother, were present, along with Ventura’s husband.

Combs faces serious charges including conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transporting individuals to engage in prostitution, all of which he denies. He has been in custody since his arrest last year and could face a life sentence if convicted.

Before the court adjourned on Thursday, prosecutors noted that Dawn Richard, a former member of Danity Kane, is expected to testify soon.
