Update on Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Trial
Singer Cassandra “Cathy” Ventura, former girlfriend of Sean “Diddy” Combs, is a key witness in the ongoing federal trials concerning charges of sex trafficking and assault against the music mogul. She is set to return to testify on Wednesday morning as the trial continues into its third day.
Ventura, eight and a half months pregnant, shared during her testimony on Tuesday that throughout her decade-long tumultuous relationship with Combs, she experienced a series of troubling drug-fueled encounters, coupled with years of abuse and manipulation. She recounted how Combs exercised control over various aspects of her life, explaining that arguments could escalate to violence. “He would crash my head, flip me over, drag me, kick me,” she stated in court.
The 38-year-old filed a lawsuit against Combs in 2023, detailing physical and sexual abuse, which was eventually settled for undisclosed sums. This lawsuit spurred a federal investigation that resulted in Combs’ arrest in September 2024.
Combs is facing charges that include conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation for the purpose of prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty to all allegations.
During her emotionally charged testimony, Ventura paused frequently to collect herself, visibly upset as she dabbed her eyes with tissue and rested her hands on her stomach. She described a harrowing multi-day event known as the “freak-off,” where she was involved in drug-fueled sessions, including the use of MDMA or ecstasy, which left her feeling “terrifying,” “unworthy,” and “humiliating.” Despite these feelings, she mentioned her desire to please Combs and an uncertainty about refusing him.
Reflecting on their first meeting in 2005 at just 19 years old, Ventura described Combs as an impressive figure in the music industry. She signed a deal with his label, Bad Boy Records, but only released one album.
As the court session came to a close on Tuesday, prosecutors began questioning Ventura about a crucial surveillance video from 2016, which depicted her being kicked and dragged. Ventura recounted an incident during which Combs and a male escort were engaged in a “freak-off” in their hotel room, leading to her departure amidst the chaos.
Her testimony will continue, with cross-examination scheduled for Wednesday. The trial is expected to run for a minimum of eight weeks and has not been publicly broadcast.
If found guilty, Combs, who has remained in custody since his arrest, faces the possibility of life in prison.
