Cassie Ventura’s mother claims Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs tried to extort her for $20,000

Trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs Continues

The federal trial against Sean “Diddy” Combs resumed on Tuesday, featuring testimony from Regina Ventura, the mother of Cassandra “Cathy” Ventura. She expressed fears for her daughter’s safety, alleging that Combs had “recovered the money he spent on her daughter” due to his relationship with Kid Cudi.

Cassandra Ventura, Combs’ former girlfriend and a crucial witness, had testified the previous week. Facing charges related to sex trafficking, conspiracy, and the transport of individuals for prostitution, the 55-year-old Combs was arrested in September 2024 and has pleaded not guilty.

On Tuesday morning, David James, a former personal assistant to Combs who had worked with him since 2007, continued his testimony, which began the day before. His statements were followed by those of Regina Ventura and exotic dancer Chalet Hayes.

Regina Ventura recalled a December 2011 incident when her daughter sent an email during a flight home for Christmas. In the email, it was indicated that she threatened to release an explicit video after discovering Combs was dating Kid Cudi. Moreover, the email mentioned Combs allegedly saying that he and Cudi “harmed someone.”

She stated that she demanded $20,000 to cover what Combs claimed to have spent on Cathy. Out of concern for her daughter’s well-being, she and her husband took out home equity loans. Instructions on wiring the money were reportedly received from Combs’ bookkeeper, though the funds were returned shortly thereafter.

Upon returning home for the holiday, Cathy reportedly learned about Combs’ alleged violent behavior. Regina noted she photographed the bruises on her daughter’s body as evidence.

During James’ testimony, he outlined his various responsibilities, which included preparing hotel rooms, organizing clothing and toiletries, and procuring personal items like baby oils and snacks. He also mentioned that Combs had medicine bags containing multiple prescription pills.

James recounted an incident at a New Year’s party where he took ecstasy. Afterward, he said Combs was holding a video of him dancing, saying, “I want to keep this footage in case I need it.”

He noted an encounter from 2008 when he was ordered back to a diner with Combs, recalling that it made him realize the danger he was in. “This was the first time I recognized that my life was in danger,” he added.

During cross-examination, Combs’ defense attorney highlighted inconsistencies in James’ accounts, referencing previous statements he’d made to authorities.

They also inquired about an altercation involving Combs’ chef, to which James testified that Combs told him, “You can’t put your hands on a woman.”

After Regina Ventura’s testimony, exotic dancer Hayes was called to the stand. Hayes said he was hired multiple times by Ventura and Combs for their “freak-off” sessions, with the last occurring in 2016.

When asked about Ventura’s demeanor during these sessions, Hayes stated that they aimed to create enjoyable and sexy atmospheres for the participants. He noted observing her reactions during these encounters, but under cross-examination, he clarified that he didn’t see any signs of discomfort.

Succeeded by Gerald Ganon, a special agent from Homeland Security who led a search in Combs’ Miami Beach residence in March 2024, he testified that parts of an AR-15 were found in a bedroom closet, alongside various personal items.

Ganon will continue his testimony on Wednesday morning.

Earlier in the week, the jury heard from singers Dawn Richard and Kelly Morgan, both close to Ventura, who testified about witnessing Combs attacking Ventura. Morgan also shared her account of being personally assaulted by Combs back in 2018, describing an incident where he struck her with a wooden hanger and suffocated her.

She added that Combs sent her money afterward and that she had signed a confidential agreement. Morgan revealed that Ventura felt trapped in their relationship, stating Combs “controlled everything” in her life.

The trial is expected to extend for another seven weeks. If found guilty, Combs could face significant prison time.
