Catcher Austin Hedges of the Guardians proposes to his girlfriend following a victory.

Austin Hedges had quite a memorable Sunday.

His Guardians secured a win against the Orioles, finishing 8-4, and then he proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Lexi Dixon, right on the field at Progressive Field.

As the proposal was displayed on the stadium’s video board, he asked Lexi to marry him, and, of course, she said yes. The crowd erupted in cheers for the couple.

Dating since November 2024, Hedges revealed that he purchased the ring during spring training and had just recently solidified his proposal plans.

The big question appeared on the Jumbotron: “Lexi, will you marry me?” Then Hedges dropped to one knee.

Although he noted he might have proposed whether they won or lost, he felt a sense of satisfaction with their victory that day.

“I honestly thought we could win,” he said. “I was going to ask regardless, but a win just makes it more special.”

He admitted he was extremely nervous—not just about the proposal but also about the game. “I often get jittery before games. Today was unique, though; I wanted to soak in every moment,” he expressed.

Interestingly, the couple had no planned celebrations for later that night.

“I’ll just grab dinner and enjoy a quiet evening,” Hedges mentioned.

This victory against the Orioles snapped a four-game losing streak for the Guardians.

As it stands, the team leads the American League Central Division with a record of 13 wins and 10 losses, ahead of the Tigers by 1.5 games.

However, Hedges might not have much time to celebrate his engagement, as the Guardians are facing the Astros at home on Monday for a three-game series.
