A new remix of a short comment made by former President Donald Trump during a debate with Senator Kamala Harris has been trending on social media platforms.
Speaking in Springfield, Ohio, on Tuesday night, President Trump focused on the problems caused by an influx of Haitian immigrants who are allegedly ignoring local laws and customs regarding animals.
“These raids will focus public attention on a Biden-Harris-instigated problem: migrant incursions into small towns, a very Trump-like problem.”
“Dogs are being eaten in Springfield,” Trump said, referring to Haitian immigrants. “Cats are being eaten. People's pets are being eaten. This is what's happening in our country, and it's a shame.”
At the time, Harris was seen chuckling in condescension and disbelief. ABC News host David Muir then attempted to fact-check Trump's claims, citing a statement from Springfield Mayor Brian Heck, who claimed there were “no credible reports or specific allegations that pets have been harmed, injured or abused by individuals within the immigrant community.”
The veracity of the allegations about the pets remains unclear, and Trump may have sensationalized the story to draw wider attention to the plight of Springfield residents amid lingering questions about how Haitians treat wild animals such as ducks and geese.
Regardless of the veracity of Trump's comments during the debate, some talented content creators have capitalized on them, producing catchy songs that have social media users going wild.
The lyrics are simple: “They eat dogs, they eat cats, eat cats, eat cats,” but those simple words and a powerful beat have inspired TikTok users from all backgrounds to start filming themselves dancing to the song.
Let's look at some examples here.
This trend appears to cut across party lines. Messages posted on some of the videos include: 5 Minute Compilation Prove it:
- “I hate the idea of this getting slammed.”
- “It's too fascinating to miss.”
- “I'm not gonna lie…Track 3 of this political soundtrack is awesome.”
- “When I hear this beat, it brings up certain emotions, and I'm trying to remember what it was like at the time.”
Another Song version It contains a lot of animation and synthesized electronic beats, but it still managed to grab the attention of many social media users.
Not only do trending songs provide entertainment that unites our divisions, they could provide electoral benefits for Trump: First, they keep potential voters focused on him while they laugh, dance, and have a good time.
It could also prompt curious minds to investigate Trump's claims and shed light on a glaring issue in Springfield, Ohio, one that Democrats have tried to keep quiet about because it has to do with immigration.
Harry Enten CNN's editor-in-chief acknowledged that “the most trending Google search phrases related to Trump after the debate were all about eating animals.” Enten suggested that such search phrases would ultimately boost Harris, but most X users in the comments section disagreed.
- “These searches will draw attention to Biden and Harris' campaign against immigrants entering small towns, the very issue Trump is concerned about,” one user said.
- “The effect was literally the opposite, Harry,” said another.
- “Go for it. Trump will benefit. There is a point to this, but even if he didn't, it would be scandalous enough to drop 20,000 Haitians in a town of 50,000,” said a verified account called Oilfield Test Monkey.
