Panic erupted in a Carnival cruise ship dining room as a number of women got into an all-out brawl, daring to throw chairs and fists at each other as shocked passengers and staff looked on.
A six-and-a-half-minute video filmed by guest Nick Richardson on a voyage to Honduras and the Mexican island of Cozumel in early June shows the moment furniture in the ship’s dining room started flying through the air.
At least six women were involved in the fight, along with several men who appeared to be trying to break it up.
There were about three people at the scene who appeared to be carnival security guards, but their efforts to stop the violence were virtually futile in the face of a mob of angry women punching each other.
About two minutes into the video, a group of non-security workers from the cruise ship can be seen looking on in disbelief.
“This is the first time I’ve seen it. [something] “That’s what it’s like,” one woman told Richardson.
“Really? Welcome to America… This is America. Check out this damn thing,” the cameraman can be heard replying.
Another man, who initially did not appear to be involved in the brawl but joined the fight when things got out of control, walked into the camera’s frame.
“They’re hitting on my mom, brother… that’s why I went in there… I’m not gonna hit a woman, but I’m gonna kick their ass, ’cause she was hitting on my mom,” he told Richardson.
Meanwhile, in the background of the video, Richardson can be heard repeating that he only came to the diner to get pizza.
“Can I just have one slice of pizza before I go to bed?” he asked, as staff scurried around the cafeteria.
At the 5:30 mark in the footage, as the game draws to a close, the cameraman suggests, “Let’s have a good night, guys. Let’s have some pizza!”
Despite the presence of multiple security guards, no one was taken away and the brawlers appeared to disperse among themselves, still shouting at each other.
Ms Richardson recorded the aftermath of the fight, showing broken plates and overturned chairs as staff helped clean up the mess.
“This is what happens when a bunch of drunk girls from Tampa show up at 3 a.m.,” said Richardson, who was on the cruise with her fiance and three children. Said of New York Post.
“I was like, ‘This is never going to work,’ so I recorded it,” he explained. “The girls had already decided what they were going to do, and it just got out of hand really quickly. That’s what happens. They just had too much to drink.”
He added that the women “didn’t care who was watching” and just “kept going.”
A Carnival Cruise Line spokesperson confirmed the incident happened on June 6.
“As a matter of company policy, we do not tolerate this type of behavior. Guests involved will be fined and will never sail on a Carnival Cruise Line ship again,” a statement obtained by the cruise line said. post Said.
It is unclear whether any participants were arrested.
Richardson said the unsafe situation on board the ship would not force him to cancel another cruise trip with Carnival.
“Everyone was friendly with each other on the cruise and everyone was having fun,” he told media. “Carnival made sure that everyone had a great time.”
“I won’t let this flight stop me from flying Carnival again. I’ve already booked another flight with my family for this spring.”
