Catherine O’Hara’s brother has shared some insights about the final days of the ‘Schitt’s Creek’ star.
During a recent episode of his podcast “Dreams of Our Loved Ones,” Michael P. O’Hara mentioned that before his sister’s passing in January at 71, their conversations had dwindled. He noted that she, living in Los Angeles, “didn’t live nearby” and wasn’t inclined to talk much on the phone. This context made a recent dream encounter particularly meaningful.
Michael recounted that the dream occurred just “days or so before” Katherine passed away. He expressed, “I always cherish the time I get to see my loved one in a dream-like state. And I was holding her, and it was really beautiful. And I think it was a kind of farewell.”
In the dream, Katherine appeared to be settling into a new home, busy choosing furniture and decor. She told him, “Michael, you can come and sleep here any time you want.” It reminded him of memories from her time on Second City Television.
Michael reminisced about staying at Katherine’s place when he was building his career, saying it was a joyful experience. Despite her passing, he believed that love endures. “Love will last no matter what. They will always be with us,” he remarked.
As previously mentioned, Katherine’s unexpected death from a pulmonary embolism on January 30 sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry. She was actively involved in a new role as Patti Lee in Season 1 of The Studio and was expected to return for Season 2 but missed filming just days before her death.
Seth Rogen, co-creator and star of the show, shared that they are addressing Katherine’s passing in the upcoming season, acknowledging that it’s an integral part of life. “We’re not ignoring them,” he said in discussing how they plan to handle these heavier themes while maintaining the show’s light-hearted spirit.
Evan Goldberg, another co-creator, noted that the cast was profoundly affected by her sudden loss. “It’s been an incredible challenge, obviously, emotionally, dealing with the loss, but also in terms of the show itself,” he expressed, emphasizing the vacuum left by Katherine’s absence.
