Catherine Zeta-Jones claims that having four homes is 'not too much'

Catherine Zeta-Jones on Home Ownership and Fashion

Catherine Zeta-Jones, the 55-year-old actress, mentioned in an interview with the Sunday Times that she and her husband, Michael Douglas, own four properties. These include two in New York, one in Canada, and another in Spain.

“I realize it sounds quite jet-set, but I think surrounding myself with beauty feels right. It’s not excessive; it’s really quite comfortable,” she explained regarding their multiple homes.

In the discussion, Zeta-Jones shared her willingness to indulge in less practical purchases. “I’m always browsing vintage stores in Paris. You find beautiful items like a stunning cape that you might never actually wear. I’m currently fascinated by classic Yves Saint Laurent pieces, especially evening dresses,” she noted.

When it comes to everyday items, she has a more pragmatic view. “For me, jeans are just jeans. Should I really spend £200 on a white T-shirt? It’s different with couture—it’s the artistry and the beautiful details that I admire,” she added.

Zeta-Jones also talked about her daughter, Carrie, who is 22 and shares her passion for fashion. “She adores my closet. I might have the biggest collection of Fendi baguette bags out there. She even found some at my mother’s place. My collection ranges from denim to pearls and sequins,” she said.

The couple will be celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary this November. Zeta-Jones casually mentioned how they keep their Oscars—her award for Best Supporting Actress in “Chicago” and Douglas’s Oscar for “Wall Street”—in separate homes. “Mine is in our rural New York property, while his is in an apartment in New York City. We keep them apart, just in case,” she chuckled.

Reflecting on their relationship, she described how they maintain their independence. “We don’t focus on the negativity that’s sometimes written about us. Respecting each other’s space has been key for us. We’re quite similar, surprisingly—both born on the same day, just 25 years apart,” she said.

Moreover, Zeta-Jones mentioned that Douglas, now 80, seems ready to take a step back from acting to enjoy more leisurely pursuits like golf. “He’s slowing down. I think he’s ready for that,” she commented, adding a light note about how ‘retirement’ for him might not be straightforward given his love for his career.
