Cause probed in partial collapse of bleachers that injured 12 at a Texas rodeo arena

Authorities are investigating after part of a stand at a rodeo arena near San Antonio, Texas, collapsed over the weekend, injuring 12 people.

Emergency responders arrived at the Borne rodeo grounds, about 30 miles (50 kilometers) north of San Antonio, just after 9 p.m. Saturday, said Borne Deputy Fire Chief Walter Ball.

Four people were treated at the scene of the collapse at the Kendall County Fairgrounds Saturday night and eight others were taken to the hospital, six of whom have since been released, Ball said.

An initial inspection conducted Sunday morning by the Boerne fire chief and the city's code compliance office found that a more thorough investigation by a structural engineer is needed to determine the cause of the collapse before the arena can reopen.
