CBS’ ‘After Midnight’ with Taylor Tomlinson Stumbles with Disappointing Debut Viewership

Comedian Taylor Tomlinson debuted on CBS this week after midnight, the network has aggressively promoted it as the first major late-night show hosted by a woman. But viewer ratings are well below those of his predecessor, James Corden, a sign of weak public enthusiasm so far.

after midnight According to multiple reports, an average of 686,000 viewers tuned in at 12:37 a.m. Tuesday, according to Nielsen data.

That number was nowhere near James Corden's final episode, which drew 1.43 million viewers last year. His show's final season averaged 806,000 viewers.

Taylor Tomlinson's hour-long show differs from Corden's in that it follows a game show format. Tomlinson will serve as host and celebrity guests will participate in the game. Tuesday's episode featured guest appearances by Whitney Cummings and two other comedians: Aparna Nancherla and Kurt Braunoler.

Corden has managed to get regular A-list celebrity guests on his show.

As Breitbart News reported, CBS executives recently acknowledged that Taylor Tomlinson was a diversity hire.

“One of the opportunities we see with the 12:30 spot is the opportunity to expand our horizons in terms of format and talent and make sure we have diversity behind and in front of the camera,” CBS CEO George said. Ta. Cheeks said.

Tomlinson has made a name for himself primarily among Zoomers and millennials, with little recognition among general audiences.
