CBS ends ‘The Equalizer’ just days before the season finale, while Queen Latifah speaks out about the show’s conclusion.

Queen Latifah bids farewell to her role as Robin McCall in “The Equalizer” this Sunday, as CBS has decided to cancel the series after five seasons.

The drama, which premiered in 2021, followed the journey of Latifah’s character, a former CIA officer and devoted mother of two, who worked to help those in need.

This weekend’s season finale will also serve as the series finale, according to reports.

Latifah, who also took on the role of executive producer alongside Shakim Competer, expressed her gratitude for the show and her character, sharing her sentiments on social media just hours after learning of the cancellation.

“Stepping into a role like Robin was everything I hoped for,” she posted on Instagram.

She acknowledged her excitement for creating impactful characters and projects and expressed her hope that the audience connected with them as much as she did.

In her tribute, Latifah thanked the cast, crew, and fans for their unwavering support, emphasizing that it meant “the world” to her.

Promising to keep fans in the loop about her next endeavor, she hinted that she wouldn’t be stepping away from action roles anytime soon. “Don’t worry, I’ll be back kicking butt with something new soon. I can’t wait to share it,” she added.

The series featured a talented cast, including Tory Kittles, Adam Goldberg, Liza Lapira, Leia Deleon Hayes, and Lorraine Toussaint. It was a modern reboot of the original 1985 series starring Edward Woodward.

Throughout its run, “The Equalizer” received multiple award nominations, including from BET, NAACP Image Awards, People’s Choice, and Critics’ Choice. Latifah was honored with the Outstanding Actress award at the NAACP Image Awards this past February.

The series produced a spinoff but was ultimately sidelined during CBS’s recent wave of cancellations that affected five other notable law enforcement shows, such as “SWAT” and “FBI: Most Wanted.”

Following the cancellation of “SWAT,” its star, Shemar Moore, expressed feelings similar to Latifah’s—proud of their work despite the show’s end. “It’s been a challenging journey, but how many shows can say they’ve made it so far? I’ll accept it, but it’s never easy,” he remarked.
