CeeDee Lamb earned top wide receiver

Congratulations, Christian McCaffrey! You are Madman's 2023 Fantasy MVP. Imagine your friends and family showering you with confetti and holding an awesome trophy as you take them to Disneyland. Won.

But there was a more interesting battle than the MVP battle for the top fantasy wide receiver.

Tyreek Hill appeared to be in a mad dash for this award all season. But then he got all the rage when CeeDee Lamb was booming.

After posting a solid 18.6 PPR in Week 15, the first round of the fantasy playoffs, Lamb scored his sixth 25 points of the season the following week with a 25.2 PPR. And during championship week, he hit the nail on the head, posting a 40.2, his fourth 30-plus game of the season. He was literally a league champion.

But was it enough to overcome the cheaters? In the end, Hill recorded nine games of 25 or more and five games of 30 or more. He averaged— Averaged! — 26.1 to week 13.

Hill was a candidate for NFL MVP — not just fantasy or WR, but the real-world MVP of the entire league. He then had an ankle adjustment in Week 14 and missed one game, averaging 14.2 points and ranking 32nd among WRs in total points (42.6) after Week 14.

Lamb led the league during that span, averaging 25.8 points per game and 103.1 total points, nearly 20 points more than the next best WR during that span.

Still, Hill was significantly better than Lamb for most of the year, and his 26.1 during that period was easily ahead of Lamb's 22.1. But Lamb was still a WR3 at the time. And it wasn't the fantasy playoffs at the time.

It seemed impossible just a few weeks ago, as impossible as the Falcons winning 28 and the Patriots winning three, as improbable as the Red Sox' 2004 ALCS rally, and as improbable as Scott's 28 wins and the Patriots' 3 -It seemed as outlandish as rallying the Beacontown High Beavers to defeat the Dragons without Wolf's help.

Yet it happened. CeeDee Lamb passed Tyreek Hill to the finish line. And while neither could nab McCaffrey in the MVP race, Lamb did win the coveted Best Fantasy WR award.

Best QB: Josh Allen, Bills

There was only one real dud all season, and that happened in Week 1. He averaged nearly one point more per game than second-place Jalen Hurts. Lamar Jackson made a late push and had a big championship week fight, but it wasn't enough to get past Allen.

Best RB: Raheem Mostert (Dolphins)

McCaffrey can't win anymore. Kyren Williams was the top waiver pick in his previous offering, but neither is he. And Mostert's cheap draft cost gives him an edge over the one extra PPR point he got from Travis Etienne during the season.

Best TE: Sam LaPorta, Lions

Yeah, he got our best rookie TE, and that should disqualify him. But he surpassed Travis Kelce. TJ Hockenson was injured midway through. And can you really give this to Evan Engram or George Kittle? I mean, they were fine in the thin position, but do they deserve the award?

important week

Jordan Love QB, Packers vs. Bears (Fanduel $7,800/DraftKings $6,600)

He has completed multiple TD passes in seven of the last eight games, and has totaled seven TDs in the last two games. He could end up in a shootout with Justin Fields' staff.

Melvin Gordon RB, Ravens vs. Steelers (FD $5,500/DK N/A)

The Ravens are expected to take the No. 1 seed and go into rest mode, so Gus Edwards and Justice Hill won't be counted on. Enter: Gordon.

Pierre Strong Jr. RB, Browns, Bengals (FD $4,600/DK $4,000)

Similarly, we don't expect much action from Jerome Ford or Kareem Hunt. If that happens, Strong will likely absorb the job. Isn't week 18 amazing?

DeMarcus Robinson WR, Rams, 49ers (FD $6,500/DK $4,500)

Cooper Kupp was out and Puka Nacua was expected to leave after a 29-yard bonus run, leaving Robinson and the rest to catch passes from Carson Wentz.

small week

Baker Mayfield QB, Buccaneers vs. Panthers (FD $7,200/DK $6,200)

Rib issues can make it difficult to throw. Plus, they'll be up against a Panthers team that doesn't give up much through the air. Scored in single digits against Carolina in Week 13.

Elijah Mitchell RB, 49ers vs. Rams (FD $6,600/DK $5,800)

Third-stringer Jordan Mason could get some big carries as he battles an illness and the Niners are in preseason mode.

Amon Ra St. Brown WR, Lions vs. Vikings (FD $8,800/DK $8,600)

There's not much incentive to go full throttle to move up from the third seed to the second seed. Don't be surprised if the Lions ease off the gas in the second half to protect their health heading into the playoffs.

The Lions have already clinched a playoff spot, which could limit Amon-Ra St. Brown's availability in Week 18. AP

Evan Engram TE, Jaguars, Titans (FD $6,800/DK $5,400)

QB Trevor Lawrence is questionable with a shoulder issue. We don't like Engram's prospects with CJ Beathard under center. The Titans have been No. 1 against opposing tight ends this season, allowing just two TDs against them.
