Chris Meloni

Law & Order: SVU actor Christopher Meloni decided to share a saying to clarify his feelings. “No one ever went bankrupt by underestimating the intelligence of the American people,” it says.

“Americans, as a group, are not particularly intelligent and can be easily entertained or tricked to provide economic benefit to others.”

Bette Midler

Bette Midler, a known opponent of President Trump, quoted a sharp statement from American journalist HL Mencken.

“When a candidate for public office confronts voters, he is not confronting reasonable men, but a crowd, and the main characteristic is that they are unable to weigh ideas, even the most basic. The fact is that they cannot even understand anything other than what is true. Men whose all thinking is done from the point of view of emotion, and whose dominant emotion is fear of not understanding, have such problems. When faced with the idea that a candidate is either howling with the herd or lost, essentially the most evil and mediocre of all: the idea that one's own mind is virtually empty. As democracy matures, the presidency tends to be filled more and more by people who can deftly disperse people's inner souls toward lofty ideals. One day, the average people of this country will finally achieve their heart's desire, and the White House will be graced by a complete idiot.”
