Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay criticizes GLP-1-inspired restaurant menus as 'absurd'

Gordon Ramsay Critiques New Restaurant Trends Amid Ozempic Use

As the popularity of Ozempic and Munjaro influences dining choices, some eateries are making changes, but Gordon Ramsay isn’t having it.

The renowned chef and host of “Next Level Chef” expressed his disdain for the trend of GLP-1-inspired restaurant menus, calling it “ridiculous.” He remarked, “If I hear ‘Munjaro Menu’ again, I’ll seriously lose it.” Ramsay’s frustration is palpable.

“I’ve never encountered anything so embarrassing,” he noted, pointing out that chefs are now opting for smaller tasting menus to accommodate weight loss. “It’s honestly stupid,” he added.

Ramsay believes dining out should be a “celebratory” experience, not merely about minimizing portions. “It’s a time to enjoy togetherness and share good moments,” he emphasized, suggesting that reducing food to such small servings detracts from that joy.

Moreover, Fox News Digital reached out to the National Restaurant Association for their perspective on this shift.

Changes in Eating Habits

Although those using GLP-1 medications are modifying their orders rather than abandoning restaurants altogether, a recent study from Circana found that these diners are only ordering about 1% fewer items during their visits. Interestingly, there’s a noticeable increase in interest for healthier options like vegetables and fruits.

Several restaurants, along with fast food chains, are tailoring their menus accordingly, offering smaller dish sizes aimed at GLP-1 consumers.

Chef Andrew Zimmern, based in Minnesota, earlier proposed that restaurants should present “more affordable menus with less meat” to accommodate a broader audience.

Ramsay’s Culinary Grievances

Additions to restaurant menus, like smashed avocados, have also drawn Ramsay’s ire. He humorously remarked on the aesthetics, saying, “Bubbles… looks like a cat threw up.” He added, “There are so many ways to prepare avocado beautifully. Just a few months back, I had an incredible chilled avocado soup in Oaxaca.” His frustration with the term “smashed avocado” is quite clear.

Foam on dishes is another pet peeve for Ramsay. “Foam is meant for shaving, right?” he quipped. “It takes thirty seconds to create, and then it just looks like cat vomit on the plate.” The criticism serves as a reminder that not all culinary trends resonate with every chef.

Fox News Digital has also reached out to Ramsay’s representatives for further comments on these observations.
