Life Sentence for Celebrity Stylist’s Wife in Insurance Murder Case

The wife of a well-known hairstylist received a severe sentence on Monday, convicted of murdering a stylist for the sake of a $1.6 million life insurance policy.

Monica Sementili, 53, was sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole in Los Angeles after being found guilty of the first-degree murder of her husband, Fabio Sementili, in their Woodland Hills, California home back in 2017.

LA County Superior Court Judge Ronald S. Cohen emphasized that Monica was the mastermind of the heinous crime. Her lover, Robert Baker, expressed disbelief that she could have orchestrated such a brutal act with any intelligence.

“The defendant is the primary mover in this execution,” the judge stated, rejecting her defense team’s request for a reduced sentence of 25 years.

Prosecutors contended that Sementili aimed to collect the life insurance money while sidestepping a divorce. Deputy District Attorney Beth Silverman characterized the murder as “completely pointless,” driven by Sementili’s greed.

She asserted that, had it not been for Monica’s plotting, her husband would still be alive today. “She and her lover showed no mercy to Fabio,” Silverman stated, arguing that Sementili deserved none in return.

Baker, a former porn star and convicted sex offender, testified about the murder, insisting it didn’t involve a conspiracy between him and Sementili. “I killed him because I wanted her,” he told the court.

Baker fatally stabbed Fabio on January 23, 2017, and then fled in his black Porsche. The couple’s daughter, Isabella, found her father’s body shortly afterward. Although Austin, another accomplice, maintained that Monica was not directly involved, she did reportedly leave the door unlocked.

Baker later pleaded guilty to murder and conspiracy charges, receiving a lengthy sentence, while Monica was handed life without the possibility of parole.

Two of Fabio’s sisters urged the judge to impose the maximum sentence, labeling the murder an “unusual betrayal.” One sister described Monica’s planning as something only a “devil” could conceive, forcing their daughter to discover her father’s body.

Isabella shared her hope that “justice will win over time.” Following the sentencing, Monica’s family reiterated their belief in her innocence, stating, “This is not the end of her story. We will explore all legal options available to ensure that true justice is served.”

Fabio Sementili was a prominent figure in the hairstyling world, having worked with numerous celebrities and held a significant position in Wella, a division of Procter & Gamble.
