Celine Dion Announces Return to the Stage After Health Struggles
Famed singer Celine Dion is set to make her comeback after a challenging four-year journey with an incurable illness.
On March 30, which also marked her 58th birthday, Dion shared a heartfelt video on Instagram. This was quite a milestone for her, as it was the first birthday message she recorded for herself.
“This year, I’m receiving the best gift of my life. I’ll get to see you and perform for you again in Paris, starting this September!” Dion expressed enthusiastically.
She added, “I’m really ready for this — I feel good, strong, and quite excited, though, maybe just a tad nervous!”
Dion was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome in 2022, a condition that brings extreme pain and challenges. Her last live performance was during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, but prior to that, her last full concert was back on March 8, 2020, in Newark, New Jersey.
The National Institute for Neurological Disorders describes Stiff Person Syndrome as a rare neurological disorder that can cause sensitivity to touch and sound, along with rigid muscles and spasms. This condition significantly impacted her voice and mobility, making performances impossible for a time.
Despite her experiences, Dion has been candid about her health. “I’m managing well and feeling good. I’m singing again and even doing a bit of dancing,” she shared.
She emphasized, “I want to say something really important: Throughout these past few years, I’ve felt your prayers and support, your kindness, and love.”
As part of her comeback, the iconic artist has a performance schedule that includes breaks between shows. She will embark on a 10-night residency at the Paris La Défense Arena in September and October.
Tickets for her shows will go on sale starting April 7, following a registration period that began on her official website on March 30.
“I’m grateful to all of you. I can’t wait to see you again,” she said, expressing her excitement.
Dion also shared several posts on her updated Instagram account, signaling what seems to be a new chapter following her health struggles.
