Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla flat out rejected racially-charged questions from the media on Saturday, preferring instead to redirect the questions to one about his faith in Christ.
Mazzulla is one of two black head coaches in the NBA and will face the other black head coach, Jason Kidd of the Dallas Mavericks, in Game 2 of the upcoming NBA Finals.
Before that, a reporter asked Mazzulla if he had any comments to make about black head coaches.
Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports asked a question about race, saying, “For the first time since 1975, we have two Black coaches. Do you feel this is a significant moment, given the struggles of having Black head coaches in the NBA at times? Do you feel proud about this? How do you feel about this, or do you not feel anything at all?”
Mazzulla was quick to respond: “I wonder how many of those were Christian coaches.”
And the room went into shocked, stunned silence.

Mazura said, Christian Faith Having visited him several times before, it is well known that he is a devout Christian.
Many on social media expressed stunned by Mazura’s comments on Saturday, especially the silence in the room after he spoke.
