Celtics coach’s statue receives a new look before Game 5 in Boston.

Boston – What a sneaky move!

Auerbach’s statue, a tribute to the esteemed Celtics coach, was humorously dressed in a Knicks jersey amid the ongoing rivalry on Wednesday.

The statue sported a jersey from Knicks player Jalen Brunson. Some bystanders expressed their disbelief, one exclaiming, “This is just wrong—it should be illegal!” as they strolled past the bronze figure at Faneuil Hall.

This light-hearted prank involved slipping a Knicks jersey on the statue, which honors Auerbach’s impressive legacy of winning eight NBA championships between 1959 and 1966.

It didn’t sit well with everyone, as another passerby remarked, “Seriously? They put him in that Knicks jersey? How disrespectful!”

However, the fun was short-lived. After about ten minutes, a security guard stepped in, insisting the jersey be removed since it was “private property.”

The Knicks are on the verge of advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals, needing a win against the Celtics in Game 5 on Wednesday, leading the series 3-1.

For those interested, the game starts at 7 pm on TNT, broadcast live from TD Garden.
