CEO of Trail Life USA ‘Saddened’ by Boy Scouts Name Change

The CEO of Trail Life USA, the replacement organization for the organization formerly known as the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), said his company was “saddened” by the BSA’s recent name change to Scouting America. “I’m here,” he said.

In a press release Friday, Trail Life USA CEO Mark Hannock challenged the fact that the Boy Scouts organization “boys and girls are different” and leaves behind a “male-dominated environment.” criticized.

“I regret Scouts’ continued challenge to the truth that boys and girls are different and deserve different programs,” Hancock said in a press release. “Trail Life USA remains committed to recognizing the unique design of boys through a proven process that develops them into godly people.”

Hancock’s statement comes after the BSA changed its 114-year-old name in early May, encouraging all Americans to participate in Scouting America and “bring their true selves to life.” The idea is to send a “very strong message” that it can be done, the Scouting America president said. Hancock went on to acknowledge that men and women are physically and emotionally different, saying, “While it may be culturally acceptable to pretend otherwise in the name of progress and tolerance,” , it is a disservice to both sexes,” he added.

“Boys and girls deserve unique programs designed with their individual needs in mind,” Hancock continued.

The BSA name change comes after the organization has made some big waves in recent years. change, Lifting bans on gay employees, allowing transgender boys to become members of scouting organizations, and more.

In 2019, the organization made history by allowing girls to participate and changing its name to Scouts BSA.

Over the years, the Boy Scouts of America has faced numerous allegations by former Boy Scouts that their leaders sexually abused them. In 2021, the organization reached an $850 million settlement over sexual abuse allegations.

“Trail Life is more than just a Christian alternative to the Boy Scouts. It is an answer to a serious crisis affecting America’s boys,” Hancock added. “While the Boy Scouts abandons its traditional boy-centered roots, we are dedicated to providing boy-friendly spaces for boys and their families.”
